The 2024 Tasmania vintage
The 2024 season in Tasmania brought warmer, drier conditions than the three preceding vintages; winter rainfall was close to normal (though erratic in the southeast) but with above average temperatures. The warmer weather continued in spring and resulted in early budburst, settled flowering and a return to long-term average yields (some slightly higher) of perfect-looking bunches, albeit with slightly lower bunch weights. The extra warmth meant little to no disease pressure, and all varieties ripened up to three weeks earlier than usual with intense flavours and slightly lower acidities than is the norm; chardonnay, pinot noir, merlot and cabernet sauvignon all looking great.
