Artemis Wines

During 1998 and '99 Anton Balog progressively planted 3.2ha of pinot noir, sauvignon blanc and tempranillo at an altitude of 680m. He is using wild yeast ferments, hand-plunging and other ‘natural' winemaking techniques, with the aim of producing Burgundian-style Pinot and Chardonnay and Bordeaux-style Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Has been joined by Mark for the foreseeable future. Estate production will be supplemented by locally grown grapes. The name of the venture has changed from Mundrakoona Estate to Artemis Wines. A further 2ha of close-spaced pinot noir with clones 114, 115 and MV6 has been planted. Exports to Norway, Switzerland, Maldives, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. -JAMES HALLIDAY
