Our Review

After a deep immersion in fine wine in Melbourne and a pivotal vintage in ’98 in Burgundy, Jane Eyre’s obsession with pinot noir saw her move to France in ’04 and make her own way in that fortress of tradition. Working with Dominique Lafon and as winemaker at Domaine Newman, she branched out on her own in ’11 with a small parcel of grapes. Her subsequent success was such that she was named Négociant of the Year by the prestigious La Revue du vin de France – both the first woman and the first Australian to do so. Today, she works harvest both in France and in her homeland. In Australia, she currently makes 3 pinot noir cuvées, 1 each from Tasmania, Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula. Her style hinges on light extraction, judicious and supportive whole bunches and minimal new oak. It’s a methodology that expresses fruit, season and origin with scintillating clarity. -JAMES HALLIDAY
