Our Review
The founding Ashmead family continues to impress. Julie Ashmead (the 5th-generation winemaker at Campbells in Rutherglen) is head of production, overseeing viticulture and winemaking. Elderton has 4 vineyards across the Barossa and Eden valleys. The latter is home to the Craneford Vineyard (planted to shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, riesling and chardonnay) and the Mengler Hill Vineyard (purchased in ’22 from the Mattschoss family and planted to old-vine shiraz, cabernet, riesling and grenache). Elderton’s original estate vineyard in the Barossa Valley, Nuriootpa, is planted to shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and merlot dating back to 1894. The Greenock site, planted by the Helbig family in 1915 and purchased in ’10, consists of shiraz, grenache, carignan, mourvèdre, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay and semillon.

Cellar Door
Information
Visit the Elderton Wines Cellar Door to experience the lifestyle of the Barossa Valley, and taste our wines whilst learning about the heritage of Elderton Wines. We are very proud of being named #3 in the Halliday Wine Companion People’s Choice Award for the Top 10 wineries offering the best winery experience in Australia. We also won the 2022 South Australian Best of Wine Tourism Awards – Wine Tourism Services. This is a reflection of our friendly and knowledgeable staff who welcome you to our family. Surrounded by Elderton's iconic vineyards,, a grand 1918 classic gentleman’s bungalow first purchased by Neil and Lorraine Ashmead as their family home is now utilised as the cellar-door. Scroll down to see the photo gallery of this Barossa Valley wine tasting gem. The beautiful building provides great spaces to give you the experience you desire – from a casual tasting at the bar which looks out over our 1894 Command Vineyard, to an in-depth hosted tasting in one of our private tasting rooms. For those who would like a more in-depth tasting, check out our tasting experiences. If you desire a relaxed afternoon, our wines are also available by the glass and can be accompanied by a cheese plate. Look out over the 1894 Command vineyard from the verandah, enjoy the sunshine on the lawn or during winter sit by the open fire. We welcome Tesla drivers to visit our cellar-door and utilise the self-park Tesla Connector to charge their car whilst enjoying their visit. We hope to see you soon!
