Our Review
Orbis Wines hail from a site of 32ha at an elevation of 150m, planted in the ’60–70s. The old-vine shiraz was recently complemented with tempranillo, while grenache, albariño, montepulciano, nero d’Avola and fiano will soon be coming on stream, making for a Mediterranean potpourri. Owners Brad Moyes and Kendall Grey’s fervent belief that these varieties will define McLaren Vale’s future (as much as shape its present) underlies a holistic culture in the truest sense: regenerative farming, recycled timber, solar power, polyculture in the vineyard, the abolishment of heavy machinery and the negation of foil capsules and screw caps, are some of their efforts in the name of bona fide sustainability, carbon neutrality and the promotion of biodiversity. The overarching style is one of mid-weighted freshness, poise and giddy drinkability. -NED GOODWIN MW
