Marion's Vineyard

Marion’s Vineyard was established by young Californian couple Marion and Mark Semmens, who purchased a 14ha rundown apple orchard on the Tamar River in 1980. They planted 4ha of chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet and müller-thurgau, subsequently doubling the size. Daughter Cynthea left Tasmania to ultimately obtain a wine marketing degree from Roseworthy and an oenology degree from CSU. She travelled the world undertaking vintages, gaining invaluable experience. Back in Australia, she worked for Tatachilla and Hardys Tintara when she met husband-to-be winemaker David Feldheim. They returned to Tasmania in 2010, Cynthea contract-making Marion’s Vineyard wines and establishing their own small business Beautiful Isle Wines in ’13. In ’19, Marion, Cynthea, David and Nick (Cynthea’s brother) jointly bought Mark’s share of Marion’s Vineyard, fulfilling a long-desired succession plan. -JAMES HALLIDAY
