Our Review
Moores Hill Estate Vineyard consists of pinot noir, riesling, pinot gris and chardonnay, with a very small amount of cabernet sauvignon and merlot. The vines are located on a northeast-facing hillside, 5km from the Tamar River and 30km from Bass Strait. Moores Hill became Tasmania’s first 100% solar-powered winery in '17, the wines all made onsite. In '22, James and Constance took ownership from Julian Allport and Fiona Weller. James, who holds a Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology from the University of Adelaide, is keen on pinot noir, with vintages in Geelong, Mornington, Oregon, Burgundy and Germany under his belt. He spent 2 years at Yering Station (as assistant winemaker then winemaker) prior to Moores Hill. Constance is from France and earned her Master of Oenology in Dijon, Burgundy. Her first vintage in Australia was at Yering Station in '19, followed by time in the vineyard with Andrew Marks at Gembrook and in the winery with Simon Steele at Medhurst.
