It is unlikely that you will come across Boort by accident. It falls roughly between the Calder and Loddon Highways as they wend their way north towards the Murray River and the NSW border; Kerang, 51km to the north, is the nearest landmark of any significance. George Tallis commenced home winemaking in the early 1990s, initially simply for his benefit and that of his immediate family. Success led to relatively small commercial winemaking under the Akrasi brand, strongly influenced by Tallis' Greek ancestry. Indeed, the word ‘Akrasi' comes from the Greek name of George Tallis' home town. Taking away the letter A you are left with ‘krasi' which in Greek means wine. -JAMES HALLIDAY
