Baie Wines

Takes its name from the farming property Baie Park, owned by the Kuc family (headed by Anne and Peter) for decades. In 2000 they established 2ha each of sauvignon blanc, pinot gris and shiraz, the first vintage following in '06. The vineyard is planted on north-facing slopes running down to the shore of Port Phillip Bay; the maritime influence is profound. Patriarch Peter is a GP, used to working long hours and with attention to detail, and he and agriculturist son Simon are responsible for the viticulture. Anne greets visitors at the waterfront estate, and Simon's wife Nadine is the marketing force behind the business. -JAMES HALLIDAY
