Our Review
With the death of his great friend, viticulturist and business partner, Kym Ludvigsen, in '13, winemaker Leigh Clarnette took the plunge and retired their long-running wine business, Clarnette & Ludvigsen, now operating simply under Clarnette. Riesling, chardonnay, shiraz and tempranillo will continue to be sourced from the Ludvigsen family’s 14ha vineyard in the heart of the Grampians. Under the new Clarnette brand, Leigh has also begun sourcing from other vineyards in the region, including the Portuguese clone of tempranillo (tinta roriz). In ’21, he added pinot noir from the Pyrenees and is also keen to source grapes closer to his home in Ballarat. -JENI PORT
