Henty Estate

Peter and Glenys Dixon hastened slowly with Henty Estate. In 1991 they began the planting of 4.5ha of shiraz, 1ha each of cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay, and 0.5ha of riesling. In their words, ‘we avoided the temptation to make wine until the vineyard was mature’, establishing the winery in 2003. Encouraged by neighbour John Thomson, they limited the yield to 3–4 tonnes per hectare on the VSP-trained, dry-grown vineyard. Michael Hilsdon and Matilda McGoon purchased Henty Estate in 2018, their first vintage in ’19. -JAMES HALLIDAY
