Chanters Ridge

Orthopaedic surgeon Barry Elliott, while running the surgery unit at Melbourne's Alfred Hospital, became involved with the Kyneton Hospital. He and his wife acquired the 24ha property without any clear idea of what they might do with it; later his lifelong interest in wine steered him towards the idea of establishing a vineyard. He retained John Ellis as his consultant, and this led to the planting of pinot noir, and the first tiny make in 2000. -JAMES HALLIDAY
