Our Review
The Zerbe family has been involved in horticulture for many generations since arriving from Prussia in 1854, planting fruit trees in what is now suburban Melbourne. Generations later, in 1959, the family planted an apple and pear orchard called Tathravale. In ’96, Garry and Karen Zerbe began planting the Bittern Vineyard on this property, the extended family providing the 3rd generation of grapegrowers. In that year the family produced its 1st full array of wine styles under the Bittern Estate label. There was an involvement with Box Stallion, but following land sales by 3rd parties, that venture terminated. Continuity is provided by the winemaking team of Alex White and Carl Tiesdell-Smith.
