Our Review
Rare Hare was Willow Creek Vineyard (see separate entry), rebranded in early ’23. Louis Li took over the Willow Creek business in ’13; coming from a family of hotel developers, with an artistic background and a love of design, he had grand plans. Today, his vision has been realised in the Jackalope hotel, its stylish restaurant Doot Doot Doot, cocktail bar and art installations. There’s also the Rare Hare cellar door and eatery. Winemaker Geraldine McFaul continues to craft excellent cool-climate wines, particularly chardonnay and pinot noir, with the 11ha site renamed LL Vineyard in recognition of its owner. She’s also sourcing special parcels of single-vineyard fruit to complement the range. -JANE FAULKNER
