Paul Nelson Wines

Paul Nelson started making wine with one foot in the Swan Valley and the other in the Great Southern while completing a bachelor’s degree in viticulture and oenology at Curtin University. He then worked successively at Houghton in the Swan Valley, Goundrey in Mount Barker, Santa Ynez in California, and South Africa (for 4 vintages), hemisphere-hopping to the Rheinhessen, 3 vintages in Cyprus, then moving to a large Indian winemaker in Mumbai before returning to work for Houghton. He moved on from Houghton and (in partnership with wife Bianca) now makes small quantities of table wines from 2 of the oldest vineyards in Great Southern, the lauded Karriview Vineyard in Denmark and the Bouverie Vineyard in Mount Barker. The duo also have a winemaking project in Piemonte, Italy. -JAMES HALLIDAY
